AMS Students Present Program at Board Meeting

The students of AMS made a presentation to the AISD Board about their experience at the 2015 STEM Challenge.

Aledo Middle School students took the first-place victory in the 2015 STEM Challenge: Mission Possible, sponsored by Bell Helicopter. Bethany Anderson was the pilot for one student group. Her ability to land a helicopter on the team-constructed helipad gave them top honors at the event. Other first-place team members included Brittany Anderson, Logan Bailey, Jordan Chapin, Hannah Farmer and London Kasper.

The 2015 Challenge was held at the Tarrant County College Center of Excellence for Aviation Transportation Logistics building at Alliance Airport. Groups of students worked in collaboration to build a helipad out of household items. Once constructed, the helipad had to hold a weight and withstand wind from a fan that was five feet away. In the second challenge, teams had to fly a remote-control Helicopter and land it on the helipad that was built by the team. It then had to hold the weight of the helicopter for 30 seconds. This was the winning moment for AMS!

A second team from AMS consisted of Weston Adams, Jason Byrne, Bryson Dean, Ben Oaks and Jake Turner. Congratulations to all of the AMS students who participated in the STEM challenge. Plus, a special thanks to AMS STEM Challenge Team coaches Brooks Smith and Kelly Harper.

Mr. Smith said, “These students really showed great teamwork and problem-solving skills in this competition.”
Great job students and teachers!

Art Projects-Third Six Weeks

The third six weeks was the painting and color theory unit in the Art classes. Students focused on use of space, value and texture to create their art. This is acrylic paint on black roofing felt. They also worked on blending colors, and showing quality painting skills with good brush control.
