District Announcements
Ebola Information
Aledo ISD has fielded several calls from parents inquiring about the news of Ebola infections in Dallas. We are in contact with the Parker County Health Department and are getting guidance from them in our planned responses. To date, there are no reported cases of any staff, students, or family members connected with Aledo ISD that have been exposed to the Ebola virus or who are in isolation due to a potential exposure.

It is important to point out that, according to health officials, individuals are not considered contagious until symptoms appear. According to the Parker County Health Department there is no risk of infection to staff, students or family members who may have had indirect contact – through multiple degrees of separation – with someone who was potentially exposed or is in isolation. Ms. Albin's Science Class
Every week, CBS-11’s Jeff Jamison takes viewers into North Texas classrooms and introduces them to innovative science teachers. This week, Aledo Middle School’s Alicia Albin, eighth-grade science teacher, and her class presented a competition with teams and chemical reactions. Students tested explosion rates between specific amounts of water and effervescent antacid tablets. The goal was for the teams to have three bottle tops burst open in consecutive order simultaneously or within moments of each other. Sounds easy, right? Not so! Of the seven or so four-member teams, only one was able to reach the correct result.

All in all, the experiment taught teamwork, reactions between amounts of certain chemicals, and how timing can affect the outcome. Students agreed working hands-on in the science lab empowers them in the learning process. “It’s fun to do the work ourselves and be responsible for the end product,” one students said. “And we learn more when we do it ourselves.”

The winning team included Carly Williams, Brandon Wrinkle, Autumn Young and Patrick Warren. They are accompanied here by AMS Principal Cheryl Jones, Mrs. Albin, cameraman Thomas Riehm and Jeff Jamison. See the AISD facebook page for more photos.

The KTVT CBS-11 segment will air Monday, Oct. 27, in the 4 p.m. broadcast.
